Overview
Our briefings are designed for employees working with the Italians. We thoroughly review the Italian people and their business culture and provide practical information on their country.
Objectives
- Learn about the Italian national identity and people and what motivates them. This session will include a briefing and discussion on Italian history and geography: Ancient Rome; the Renaissance; Pre-Unification - occupation by foreign neighbours; Unification; relations between the State and the individual; the North-South divide; the influence of the Catholic church; wartime occupation; the Italian diaspora; the mafia; regional identity and dialects; attitudes to the EU.
- Become aware of the significance of making a good impression (“bella figura”), family, social networking, authority, the Italian use of titles, age, status, decision-making, rules and regulations.
- Understand typical Italian management practices and how projects can best be implemented.
- Understand how and when you need to adapt your business behaviour to create a positive impression and avoid giving unintentional offence.
- Use new techniques for effective cross- cultural communication.
- Gain an appreciation of different attitudes to time and deadlines.
- Learn lots of practical tips to assist you in your next encounter with your Italian partners.
Additional topics for expatriates may include developing future personal and organisational strategies for adapting to the new environment, the four stages of culture shock and advice on coping for the family.
