Working with the Koreans

Overview

Our briefings are designed for employees working with the Koreans.  We thoroughly review the Korean people and their business culture and provide practical information on their country.

Objectives

• Learn about the Korean national identity and people, including their history, occupation and North/South relations
• Discover the basic tenets of Confucian thought: obedience to and respect for superiors and elders, duty to family, loyalty to friends, humility, sincerity and courtesy.
• Appreciate customary business practices, including greetings, business cards, body language, entertaining at a Kisaeng house, negotiating skills and reaching agreement.
• Understand how and when you need to adapt your business behaviour to create a positive impression and avoid giving unintentional offence
• Use new techniques for effective cross-cultural communication
• Gain an appreciation of different attitudes to time and deadlines
• Learn lots of practical tips to assist you in your next encounter with your Korean partners.

Additional topics for expatriates may include developing future personal and organisational strategies for adapting to the new environment, the four stages of culture shock and advice on coping for the family.
