Working with the Norwegians

Overview

Our briefings are designed for employees working with the Norwegians.  We thoroughly review the Norwegian people and their business culture and provide practical information on their country.

Objectives

Learn about the Norwegian national identity and people and what motivates them.  This session will include a discussion on the Vikings, relations with Denmark and Sweden, neutrality, occupation, the Norwegian language, demographics, the Evangelical Lutheran Church, the Welfare State, education, hobbies and sports.

• We review the over-riding value of egalitarianism, its impact on management techniques and the desire for equality and democratic processes in the workplace.
• Understand how and when you need to adapt your business behaviour to create a positive impression and avoid giving unintentional offence.
• Use techniques to address the Norwegian preference for plain, direct speech.
• Gain an appreciation of different attitudes to time and deadlines.
• Learn lots of practical tips to assist you in your next encounter with your Norwegian partners.

Additional topics for expatriates may include developing future personal and organisational strategies for adapting to the new environment, the four stages of culture shock and advice on coping for the family.
