Accent Neutralisation (for non-native English speakers)

Who is it for?

For non-native English speakers with a reasonable grasp of English pronunciation but whose individual speech patterns limit their ability to fully express themselves or be understood.  Prior to the course, we carry out a full face-to-face needs analysis and explore specific problems that the delegates need to be addressed.

Overview:

This course helps delegates to develop a greater awareness of the wide range of sounds and intonation patterns which exist in English and how these may differ from those in their native tongue.  Once this awareness and appreciation of the differences has been developed, our training moves on to identifying the specific elements of the delegates' spoken English which differ from Standard English and the trainer will introduce strategies for minimising these differences. From then on, practice and consolidation are required to ensure that progress is achieved.

Participants learn how melody, rhythm and placement are as important for clear speech as properly formed vowels and consonants. They feel the specific action of the various articulators and learn how to use them for greater precision and clarity of speech. Generally, participants begin to hear and feel how to modify their speech to communicate more clearly and achieve a more English sound.
