As Babel supports business professionals, it is vital that our language courses reflect our sensitivity to the stresses and constraints that exist in a learner’s busy working schedule. Our teaching approach is therefore based on a balance between providing a practical, needs-related language programme and the opportunity to learn in an enjoyable, interesting atmosphere during the working day.
Our teaching methodology promotes independence in the learner with a more learner-centred approach than the teacher-centred lessons often experienced at school. In this way we aim to make our clients feel self-motivated to complete home-tasks and to regularly attend sessions.

We work to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). This essentially divides learners into three broad divisions which can be divided into six learning levels ranging from A1 Beginner through to C2 Proficient Speaker.
Our 'drip-feed' courses of regular weekly tuition are a consolidating approach to learning where, at a steady pace, knowledge of vocabulary, grammar rules and sentence structure is built up, thus allowing language to sink in after constant revision. Our recommendation is for regular language sessions to be taken twice a week for 1.5 to 2 hours per session. This will naturally depend on schedules and can be easily altered if necessary.
The ideal scenario is for two solid weeks of training covering 60 hours (ie. 6 hours per day) in which a good basic understanding of the language can be acquired. Although this type of course may be challenging at times, clients generally appreciate that this type of training offers maximum exposure to the language and is the most effective means of achieving rapid results.
For those business learners who are constantly out of their offices and on the move, we design a guided self-study programme which incorporates the following elements: self-study book, CD-Rom course, podcasts for download, grammatical exercises, telephone tutorials and scheduled face-to-face sessions. The first 4 elements are tackled on a distance-learning basis but with regular support and monitoring by the tutor.
