International Communication Skills

Communicating with others is an integral part of life, both at home and at work. While the vast majority of exchanges between people are easy and successful, there are times when communication breaks down, and relationships can be damaged as a result. When people work across cultures, or in international teams, the chances of this happening are much greater, as each member brings his own prejudices and cultural conditioning of what is "normal" to the encounter.

This course enables delegates to identify what has happened when communication between people of different cultures breaks down and how to avoid it. It helps them communicate more effectively and powerfully with their international colleagues and customers.

By the end of the training, delegates will:

  • Understand what makes good communication
  • Have identified their own communication style and how to adapt it
  • Have had the opportunity to practise their own case studies
  • Have identified the needs and concerns of the people they communicate with and understood why they put up barriers
  • Know how to plan for an international encounter and to set clear objectives
  • Know how to modify their language to ensure effective communication
