Celebrate World Day of Cultural Diversity

In December 2002, the United Nations General Assembly declared 21st May as World Day for Cultural Diversity, for Dialogue and Development.  A day that provides an opportunity to deepen our understanding of the values of cultural diversity and to learn to live and work together better.  To help celebrate this World Day and to encourage people and organisations around the world to take action to support diversity, Babel would like to suggest ten simple things you can do to celebrate World Day for Cultural Diversity (even if you choose one!).

  1. Learn the language of the international office you communicate with most regularly
  2. Find out which is the next country to celebrate their national day (sign up for our monthly cultural newsletter which would share this!)
  3. Research a country’s famous artists - what are the stories behind their work?
  4. Learn about a colleague's religion
  5. Host an international quiz for your team, each member providing 5 questions about their country/ culture
  6. Compare traditional music with a friend/ colleague from a different culture
  7. Find out the rules for a sport related to a different culture (Criquet, Pétanque…)
  8. Arrange a virtual cooking lesson to make a traditional dish, take it in terms to be the host
  9. Plan to volunteer with an organisation working for diversity and inclusion when lockdown is over
  10. Spread the word around you, family, friends and invite people from a different culture to share your customs.
